On the road

Traveling by motorhome is really our long life. My second passion is motocross. And let these two passions come together perfectly in the Dreamer Camper Sport: a campervan in which I effortlessly take my motorcycle and accompanying accessories with me. Throughout the year we go away for a weekend every other week. We have already discovered many motorcycle circuits in France. We then leave on Friday evening after work and drive another 2 to 3 hours. On Saturday I can enjoy myself on the cross circuit while Joyce makes videos about it. On Saturday evening we drive back a bit and choose a spot where we can take a nice walk on Sunday. We choose most places to stay with Park4Night. The smaller, the more nature and the fewer people, the more we feel at home.

This spring we could finally get away for a longer time! We left the bike at home and the large trunk was filled with our MTBs this time. Joyce and Scott install themselves in the passenger seat and we leave without a plan, but with the intention not to look too far for the beauty.

After three hours of driving, we decide to stop at the gate of the Eifel: Monschau. We find a nice spot at the nature reserve Des Haute Fagnes along a railbike. There is still time for a walk and we are lucky: the sun is shining. With Scott in the lead, the 'short reconnaissance' turns into a fixed hike of 15km, but we enjoy it to the fullest. As icing on the cake of this first successful day, we can still enjoy a beautiful starry sky.

The next day we drive on to the heart of the Eifel National Park. We install ourselves on Wohnmobilstellplatz Rurberg with a beautiful view of the typical Eifel hills. On the motorhome site there is also a beach on a lake where it is wonderful to stay. The Eifel is truly a beautiful region and we can indulge ourselves in mountain biking and hiking through the beautiful forests. We will definitely come back here!

After the Eifel we drive on to the Müllerthal in Luxembourg. We choose one of the parking lots at the park as a place to stay, the ideal base for the many walks we want to do. The first morning we leave after a delicious egg with bacon on the first walk and are really amazed by the unique landscape. We climb along the rock formations and suddenly end up in a narrow gorge where it is very dark. The next day I take my flashlight with me for our walk along route 3 of the Müllerthal trail. This takes us via a long wooden walkway to the Kallektuffquell: a spring where crystal-clear, calcareous water flows over a ledge and forms a basin. The rich colors of the water and rocks are breathtakingly beautiful!

With regret we say goodbye to the Müllerthal to start a part of the way back. We find a quiet and beautiful place to install our campervan in Rochefort. Despite the cold and fog, it is already itching to explore the region. With Komoot we choose a walk towards La Roche-en-Ardenne. The charm of the Komoot app is that you can sometimes be surprised on the road. So it is now: we are suddenly on the edge of a wide river, which was described as a small stream. It is a choice between a 20km tour or getting by. So we look for a lot of large stones and branches and build a dam like real beavers along which we eventually get to the other side more or less dry.

To end our trip completely relaxed, we drive to Rochehaut for the last two nights. The motorhome site Le Palis is highly regarded by the Vanomobil colleagues and we have to judge that for ourselves! We are warmly welcomed by the owner Patrick and are assigned a nice spot on his very neat camper place. The sun breaks through and it immediately feels like spring. We can't resist and immediately leave on the famous ladder walk. Joyce really has to overcome her fear of heights, but once at the top it turns out to be worth all the tension: the view is really great. It gets exciting again when Scott can't find his way up himself. There is no other option than to effectively carry him up like a baby around my neck up the ladder. We get to the top safely, but my t-shirt is torn to shreds. Conclusion: nice walk, but not for four-legged friends :)

The last day we decide to take it very easy for a change. Some people at the motorhome site recommend the train through the nature park at the Rochehaut brewery. Ideal: enjoy nature with your feet in the air. It turns out to be a very good choice: what a beautiful park! A lot of deer and other animals come to the train curiously, very nice! That evening we allow ourselves the luxury of not cooking ourselves, but we walk 500m to the center of Rochehaut and let ourselves be pampered with a piece of game in Hotel Auberge de Rochehaut. Very tasty and the perfect end to our holiday.

Top 5 motorhome essentials according to Dieter:

  1. Savana tableware: We like to cook in the campervan and that tastes all the more in a beautiful and unbreakable tableware (Brunner Savana).
  2. Ultracomfort 6000 Telair : we wanted an air conditioner in the campervan, but without sacrificing a skylight. This air conditioner is located in the dashboard! 230V, 2.9A consumption, cooling and heating function, works in complete silence.
  3. Soplair Thermocover: We can't live without it! Keeps the heat out in the summer and the cold in the winter.
  4. Sunblocker: on the hottest days in the summer, it provides shelter for both ourselves and Scott.
  5. Thule Veloslide: a super handy system to get bikes in and out of the trunk of your motorhome easily!
